Schieveen

Schieveen in Rotterdam
When Science Port Holland NV started up its activities the Schieveen area was designated as one of the locations to be developed in the first phase. However, after a spatial planning review the City Council of Rotterdam decided to put this plan on hold. Looking to the longer term (after 2030), the area remains earmarked for development as a Science Park.

Schieveen is a polder on the northern periphery of Rotterdam and is currently used for agriculture. The location is situated directly along the A13 motorway and also next to the Rotterdam-The Hague Airport. The area can thus rely on good national and international connections.

Future vision
Schieveen, as noted, remains earmarked for future redevelopment. For this reason, an urban planning vision has been developed despite the initial postponement of the plans. Boasting a predominantly green atmosphere, high-quality design concept and surrounding nature area, Schieveen is an ideal site for pioneering the working environment of the future. The master plan comprises a 'villa strategy', offering location opportunities for prestigious, innovative international companies. The public space will be designed as an attractive campus with facilities, similar to the Technopolis location.

The development of Schieveen takes full advantage of the opportunities for the integrated realization of high-quality enterprise and nature. The ambition is to offer a location environment which currently, in the year 2010, is not yet available in Rotterdam and/or the South Wing of the Randstad to companies that are not yet present in the Netherlands. This primarily concerns Research & Development activities, but related commercial functions (head office) will not be excluded.

The land use planning procedure has not yet been completed.
