Hoboken & Erasmus MC
Hoboken & Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam
In addition to the Merwe-Vierhavens area and the RDM Campus, the Rotterdam City Council asked Science Port Holland NV early in 2010 to assist with the development of the Hoboken/Erasmus Medical Centre location. This area borders on the west side of Rotterdam city centre. The large-scale complex of the Erasmus Medical Centre is located in the centre of the area.
Hoboken is a relatively small development site around the Erasmus MC. Its first and main purpose is to accommodate knowledge-intensive R&D firms in the medical sector which are related to the scientific research of the Erasmus MC.
Future vision
The ambition is for Hoboken to develop further in the coming years into a leading internationally recognized urban environment dedicated to nurturing and promoting knowledge. In addition to the Erasmus MC, the master plan comprises a City Campus (education) and a Science Boulevard (enterprise). The available functions in the area include medical facilities and businesses, education, cultural and recreational facilities, conference centres and a waterside promenade.
There is vigorous synergy between these functions alongside a strong magnetic appeal as the international top location of Rotterdam. Hoboken is prominently situated in the city and in the coming years the area will be developed step by step to bring its quality into line with the importance and reputation of the institutions already established there, including the Erasmus MC and the cultural functions based in the Museum Park.
