Connecting Science & Business: Cooperation and focus critical to success
For decades, successful innovation campuses like Science Port Holland have emerged and thrived around large metropolitan areas to play a leading role in technological and economic innovation, and often developing into global players in their specific area of expertise.
With its specific vision on spatial and infrastructure development, focus on sustainability, international scope, organization and high-quality professional services, Science Port Holland is well-placed to match the standards of 'the new leading generation Science Parks' currently evolving in North America, Asia and Europe.
Another integral part of Science Port Holland's vision on spatial and infrastructure development is the provision of Living Lab facilities, where the viability of technological innovations is tested and demonstrated on a pilot scale.
As such, Science Port Holland NV and its locations in the Rotterdam-Delft knowledge & innovation region all meet the six promises of next-generation science parks:
Partners
Marketing and acquisition are clearly activities that can only succeed by combining expertise, networking and financial resources. Only then can the required professional approach be guaranteed. Equally crucial is the selection of the right parties whose skills and expertise add value to the mix. Science Port Holland NV has a number of permanent partners for organizing and/or taking part in activities in events abroad, such as investment seminars, trade exhibitions, roadshows, scientific conferences and trade missions.
Clean Tech Delta, Medical Delta & KIC Climate
In view of its focus on Clean Technology and Medical Technology, partnerships are vitally important to Science Port Holland NV. In this respect a significant contribution will be given to the international marketing and promotion strategy for the following regional projects.
Clean Tech Delta
Innovation and clean technology in the Rotterdam-Delft region give shape to sustainable solutions of regional and international significance. Clean Tech Delta is a partnership of businesses, knowledge institutions and government agencies which is dedicated to promoting and practising innovation and clean technology. The locations and conditions in the region are ideal: an industrial port complex, a densely populated urban environment, and great spatial and technological potential.
Businesses, knowledge institutions and government agencies recognize the growing significance of the Rotterdam-Delft corridor for reinforcing the socio-economic structure of the region. They need each other to achieve their ambitions and form a coalition with a leading national and international reputation. Accordingly, they are joining forces with Clean Tech Delta in order to connect, accelerate and achieve progress by developing new energy and liveability solutions that deliver direct benefits to the region, while also representing significant economic value as highly in-demand export products.
Clean Tech Delta has three dimensions:
Medical Delta
Medical Delta has joined forces with Europe's top regions in healthcare technology to address Europe's greatest health challenges of the 21st century: an ageing population and the sustainability of the healthcare system. The HealthTIES consortium consists of the Medical Delta, Oxford and Thames Valley, Canton of Zurich and Catalonia regions as well as the mentoring Debrecen region. With the support of a grant from the Regions of Knowledge funding programme of the European Commission, the consortium will:
KIC Climate
The European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) has launched three initiatives in order to create solutions for a sustainable future through research, innovation and education. One of these initiatives is the 'Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community' (Climate KIC), a pan-European consortium in which Dutch universities, knowledge institutions, businesses and government agencies play a leading role. In the coming four years Climate KIC will invest in iinnovation and education programs against climate change.
Within KIC Climate it has been agreed that the Science Parks of Utrecht, Wageningen and Delft will combine their strengths to see how they can optimally support the KIC programme. In addition, the role that KIC activities can play in giving shape to the Science Parks will also be explored.
